The Azawakh, also termed Sloughi or Arabian Greyhound, is a scarce North African sighthound. Their long, slender legs grant remarkable speed. Among the rarest breeds in the US, Azawakhs are alert and charming with strangers yet reserved with family. Their melancholic look mirrors their quiet, shy demeanor. Hailing from the Sahel region, they were prized for desert hunting speed and stamina. Their lean frame and deep chest are striking. Their short, silky coats appear in fawn, sand, brindle, and white. Azawakhs bond tightly with family and can be protective. They need seasoned owners who grasp their independent nature and exercise demands. Initially aloof, they’re sensitive and thrive with gentle, steady training.
