3. Royal Gorge Bridge, Colorado
Perched 1,000 feet over the Arkansas River, the Royal Gorge Bridge is America’s highest suspension bridge and a monument to 1920s ambition. The 1,260-foot timber walkway delivers vertigo-inducing views through its planks.
The surrounding park now includes gondolas and zip lines, and after a 2013 fire, new safety updates ensure the bridge remains the dramatic centerpiece.
