Also called the Caucasian Ovcharka, this giant can top 200 pounds. Such bulk alone can unsettle newcomers. Raised correctly, though, it becomes fiercely devoted. Bred in Russia to guard herds, the dog is powerful and bold; without early socialization, that confidence can harden into aggression.
